Exploring Sunflowers

Last term Oaks class children planted some sunflower seeds. In Science they learned all about what plants need to grow tall and strong! They could name the different parts of a plant. Each child took a sunflower home with them to see how tall it would grow.

I took a few small sunflower plants home too and mine grew really tall!  When they started drooping and the petals starting falling at the end of the summer, I cut the stems and brought them to school for the children to explore. They enjoyed picking out the seeds one by one using tweezers and using a magnifying glass to look closely at the head of the sunflower.
