Children's Roles and Responsibilities

School Council

Our School Council meets every Wednesday with Mrs. Holloway.  Each year groups has a representative. It is a very important role within the school, which children thoroughly enjoy and benefit from as the children share and discuss their thoughts on how to develop and improve the school.  More information can be found on the School Council page.

Lunchtime Helpers

Lunchtime Helpers are children that are chosen to assist at lunchtime, mainly in the dining hall.  They may be responsible for handing out cutlery or water or may be asked to collect the next class that is due to come in for their lunch as well as ringing the school bell to signal the end of lunchtime.

Lunchtime Helpers are chosen from Year 2/3 (Elms) and to teach them about taking responsibility and build on skills from nurture group.

Buddy Readers

This it has been fantastic to see older children from Sycamores Class reading with younger children from Oaks Class.  Buddy reading allows the children to practice fluent reading behaviours.  During 'Buddy Reading', older children from Key Stage Two are paired with younger children, to allow the children to  become an active listeners, experience the reading process being modelled, engage in shared reading activities and learn about the conventions of books.

The children have said -

"Reading together is fun!"

"We talked about the characters in the pictures."

"My buddy helped me to read difficult words."
