WORLD BOOK DAY 2016
This year on World Book Day the children at Tansley Primary School spent the day doing lots of fun cross curricular maths activities linked to a book. Here are a few photos from the day and watch this space for a photo of our display which will be going up outside the library.
Spring Term 1
In Oaks class this term the children have been learning all about dinosaurs. They have used the little counting dinosaurs for sorting activities (tally charts and pictograms) as well as adding, counting in 2’s and 10’s and subtraction. Year 1’s have been using them to help with their times tables as well!
The children have made plaster of Paris eggs and used these to help with subtraction, as the eggs kept rolling out the dinosaur nests! The children were solving some number problems such as…
There were 5 eggs in the t-rex nest, 2 rolled away. How many are left in the nest?
They have even made up their own version of the song ‘5 Little Snowmen’ and it goes like this…
5 little dinosaurs standing in a line,
1, 2 ,3 , 4, 5 so fine,
Stamping their feet around the swamp,
Off 1 goes stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp!
4 little dinosaurs standing in a line,
1, 2 ,3 , 4, RAGH so fine,
Stamping their feet around the swamp,
Off 1 goes stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp!
3 little dinosaurs standing in a line,
1, 2 ,3 , RAGH, RAGH so fine,
Stamping their feet around the swamp,
Off 1 goes stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp!
Etc.
They will be measuring ingredients this week when making some of their own edible dinosaur nests as well as solving problems linked to dinosaurs, such as…
There are 10 stegosaurus’ roaming around the jungle, each stegosaurus has 5 plates along its back. How many plates are there altogether?
